Austrian composer Carl Millöcker, who found success with *The Beggar Student*.

Here is the plot of *The Beggar Student*.

The Beggar Student - Act 1

On August 2, 1704, the unpopular Saxon king has imprisoned all the rebels, but Duke Adam, a traitor, still has a significant following.

Wives wishing to see their imprisoned husbands come to the prison office, requesting to see them. Enterich, unable to refuse their requests, allows them to see their husbands but takes gifts prepared for him as a price.

When two officers, Major von Wangenheim and Lieutenant von Schweinitz, arrive, Enterich quickly puts the prisoners back in their cells. However, the two officers are more interested in the rumors they've heard. They gossip about Colonel Ollendorf, who was strongly slapped by a young Polish woman named Laura.

Colonel Ollendorf, seeking revenge, plans to dress a young prisoner in fine clothes and give him money. Laura's mother needs to find a wealthy son-in-law to prevent her daughter's ruin. In the prison are enterprising young men, including the beggar student. Ollendorf decides to use them to begin his revenge.

The spring festival is approaching, and many people are celebrating. Countess Palmatica and her two daughters, Laura and Bronislava, are also present. The three women have distinct characters. Countess Palmatica is arrogant and sharp, Bronislava is sensual and pleasure-loving, and Laura appears refined and unimpressed by any man.

Laura's mother insists that only a nobleman can become her son-in-law. Colonel Ollendorf uses the beggar student and his friends, Simon and Janicki, disguising them as a millionaire and his aide, to tempt their targets. Laura agrees to marry Simon, and Janicki falls in love with Laura's sister.

The Beggar Student - Act 2

Simon, using Ollendorf's money, invites everyone attending the festival to the wedding. After the ceremony, as they leave the church and the celebrations continue, Enterich and some prisoners reveal Simon's true identity. In the end, Ollendorf succeeds in his revenge. The wedding guests become agitated and angry, and the festival descends into chaos.

The Beggar Student - Act 3

Amid the complaints of the outraged wedding guests, Janicki is quietly carrying out his own plan. When Janicki's plan succeeds, Ollendorf realizes too late that he has been outmaneuvered. Simon, who helped in the success, is rewarded by being made a duke and is accepted by Laura and her mother.

Since my accommodation is in Vienna, I have to return after the performance. When I travel, I usually rent a car. In Europe, most car gears are manual. If you rent a car, all you need is a phone charger and a mount, and you can use Google Maps to find your way anywhere. Be sure to pack these as part of your travel essentials.
