To ensure stable and long-term use of stage lighting fixtures, it is important to use appropriate power and signal connection connectors and securely fasten them. Let's take a closer look at what power and signal connection connectors to use and how to secure them.

In the field of stage lighting in Korea, C-TYPE connectors have been commonly used as the default connectors for lighting battens or floor boxes for a long time. However, with most lighting being replaced by LEDs, reducing power consumption and eliminating the need for lighting dimmers, it seems advisable not to use them at the current point.

C-TYPE connectors lack certification for safe use as there are no regulations related to product standardization, and each manufacturer has slightly different specifications, which can shorten the lifespan of products or pose electrical safety issues. Since most of them are produced in China, there are also insulation issues to be aware of.

General power outlets and DMX signal connectors are used to supply power and transmit signals to stage lighting and equipment. Power outlets are typically provided with international standard sockets, and it's important to choose products with verified safety and reliability. DMX signal connectors are used to transmit data between stage lighting and equipment using the DMX512 protocol.

Standard household sockets were used, but they require force to plug in/remove and are prone to contact damage, making them unsuitable for professional use.

Connectors for DMX signal connection are referred to as Cannon jacks (or XLR connectors). When tapping into thin lighting ducts as shown in the photo and securing them with screws, the screws often become loose over time, causing the connector to fall out. Therefore, this is not the correct fixing method.

For DMX signal connection, only 3 pins are required, but to avoid confusion with the audio section, 5 pins should be used.

Professional Lighting Connectors

This is a case using internationally standardized power connectors (PowerCon) and connectors for DMX signal connections (XLR, D-TYPE). All connectors used are products of Neutrik.

To prevent the screws of connectors from becoming loose due to prolonged use, it is recommended to use thick aluminum with the same hole size as the C-TYPE socket to secure them with bolt nuts.
