Yeulmaru in Yeosu is a unique and impressive cultural complex located in the beautiful coastal city of Yeosu, South Korea. This enchanting venue spans a total area of 694,214.8 square meters, nestled between the sea and mountains, offering visitors breathtaking natural scenery. Surrounded by a glass roof, this space was born as part of GS Caltex's social contribution activities, standing as a confluence of business and art, and serving as a venue where various cultural and artistic activities blend.
The name 'Yeulmaru' itself embodies 'a place brimming with the ripples of culture and art' and 'a traditional house deck where one can rest comfortably,' offering both rest and inspiration to its visitors. Its most striking feature, a 152-meter-long glass roof, known as the 'glass river,' reflects the stunning natural beauty of Yeosu, vividly showcasing the designer's intent to preserve the area's natural charm.
The performance hall itself is situated at the foot of a mountain, giving the sensation of being embraced by nature. The 7-story building houses various cultural facilities including a grand theater, a small theater, exhibition rooms, and a fountain plaza. Its unique structure, appearing to be hidden underground, makes it difficult to grasp the building's actual size from the outside, yet this feature enhances the venue’s sense of mystery.
One of the most distinctive aspects of Yeulmaru is its deep connection with the sea right in front of it. The place, where one can see fishermen digging for clams in front of the hall, is where everyday life and art harmonize, inviting visitors to step out of their daily lives and into the world of art. These diverse experiences establish Yeulmaru as more than just a performance hall, but a living space where culture and nature intertwine, and where art breathes.
